CAPACITIVE WATER LEVEL INDICATOR KEMO M227
KEM227 4024028032276
Level indicator for liquid tanks with capacitive measurement recording (insensitive to dirt and deposits in the water). It can also be used to check liquid levels of liquids that chemically attack metal sensors. Only for liquids such as clean or dirty water, liquid manure or similar, not for oils or flammable liquids. The measurement recording is carried out by 2 insulated cables running in parallel, which are immersed in the liquid and indicate the liquid level by changing the capacitance. Tanks with max. filling heights of 0.5 - 2 m can be measured (cables are not included).
Technical details for Kemo M227:
- Operating voltage: 9 V block battery
- Display duration: As long as the test button is pressed
- Current consumption: Only as long as the test button is pressed: approx. 10 - 20 mA (depending on how many LEDs light up)
- Measuring principle: capacitive (the capacitance between the two measuring cables changes when the liquid level varies)
- Display: 10 LEDs in steps of 10 (10 - 100%)
- Accuracy: approx. 10%
- Measurable filling height: approx. 0.5 - 2 m
- Max. cable length between the sensor module and the display unit: 100 m
- Dimensions Display: approx. 131 x 78 x 36 mm
- Dimensions Sensor Module: approx. 83 x 51 x 32 mm (without fastening straps)
Kemo M227 capacitive liquid level meter connection diagram:
The housing with the sensor module must be installed in the immediate vicinity of the liquid tank as shown in the drawing. At this sensor module the measuring cable is led into the tank by using the 2 x single pole cables according to the drawing. The two parallel single pole insulated cables are placed in the tank with the spacers supplied and fastened in such a manner that they are led straight up from the bottom of the tank to the sensor module. 10 cable spacers are included, which are distributed evenly over the entire immersion length with the cable ties supplied. The cable in the tank may be 0.5 to max. 2 m long and is then led with the shortest possible cables (max. 0.5 m distance between the top edge of the liquid and the terminal strip in the sensor module) to the terminal strip in the sensor module. Either lead this cable into the sensor module directly at the tank or lay it in a plastic pipe (max. 0.5 m) to the sensor module. The plastic pipe should have a minimum distance of 10 mm to any metal plates or similar. The cable between the tank and the sensor module must not move (fix) in the wind, because otherwise the measured capacitance changes constantly and with it the LED display. The cable between the sensor module and the display unit must be three-pole and can be laid as required (max. 100 m long).
Very important: The copper cable ends that are immersed in the tank must be insulated to 100%. The wire ends must not have any conductive connection to the liquid, otherwise the system will not work. To insulate the cable ends, a drop of hotmelt adhesive or something similar is suitable.
Important: The electronics in the „sensor module“ case is extremely sensitive to moisture. The case must be mounted dry (e.g. put a cover on it to protect it against the rain) and after installation of the cables and following the first successful functional test, the case of the sensor module should be sealed completely airtight with silicone or something similar (seal the complete case joint and the cable outlet hermetically). The display unit can be mounted anywhere (rainproof, it is not waterproof).
Setting into operation: A 9V block battery is inserted into the display unit. Then the display is adjusted: 2 trim controllers are installed inside the display unit next to the terminal block. The starting point of the lower LED is adjusted with the controller „Tank empty“ and the starting point of the upper LED is adjusted with the controller „Tank full“. So, fill the tank to nearly 10% only and adjust the controller „Tank empty“, so that the lower 10% LED lights up when the key button is pressed. Then the tank is filled and the „Tank full“ controller is set in such a manner that the tenth LED just lights up. If you cannot fill and empty the tank for adjustment, please adjust the display as follows: First immerse only approx. 5 cm of the measuring cable in the liquid (the rest is outside the tank) and adjust the display to the first LED. Then immerse the entire length of the measuring cable (corresponding to the maximum filling height) in the liquid and adjust the „Tank full“ controller so that the tenth LED just lights up when the key is pressed. Then close the display case with the 4 screws and the system is ready for operation. The measuring cables must, of course, be attached stretched to an insulating rod (e.g. plastic tube) according to the drawing: The lower end of the cable is at the bottom of the tank and the measuring cables lead stretched to the upper liquid level. If the tank is made of metal or contains any larger metal parts, the distance to these metal parts or the metal wall of the tank must be >30 cm (otherwise there may be measurement errors due to the capacitance measurement). If everything is installed correctly, press the key button: the luminous LEDs indicate the level of liquid in the tank and the LED at the top right, which also lights up indicates that the battery is still okay. If this LED does not light up any more, the battery must be replaced (even if the other LEDs still light up, measurement errors may occur).
Intended use: Measurement of the level in clear and dirty water tanks.
Scope of delivery: 1 sensor module, 1 display unit, 10 perforated webs for the measuring cable, 1 description, 20 cable ties
